Memphis in May
As I mentioned a while back, I was lucky enough to be sent down to Memphis to take part in the International Barbecue Championships last May. It was a life changing trip - I got way more out of it than a few tips on cooking good barbecue.
The comic that the experience yielded just got posted on Saveur Magazine's website: http://www.saveur.com/article/Comix/Recipe-Comix-A-Meat-Vacation
I hope you like it!

News, comics, news comics
Evenin' all! I've got some housekeeping business to catch you up on - hope you're excited, I know I am.
A while back, I got involved doing illustrations for The Wild Honey Pie, a music blog based in Brooklyn, NY. I've done two illustrations so far for their "Buzzsession" video series which features artfully directed intimate performances from some really talented musicians. So far I've found out about a bunch of new bands thanks to working with them.
They've organized a show on June 30 in New York, which I was excited to get to design the poster for. I've had the illustration up on my website for a while now, but the show is in a few weeks, so I thought it would be good to spread the word. If you're in NYC on June 30th, the show is at Pianos, located at158 Ludlow St.
Here's the poster:
Also, coming up this weekend in Chicago (a much more convenient location for most of the people reading this, I'm sure), is the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo, or CAKE. It's the first year, and the first major alternative comics convention in the city (and it's about time). So much work went into organizing the event, which is going to have some seriously talented cartoonists in attendance.
Nick Drnaso, David Alvarado, and Myself will be there, promoting the new LINEWORK anthology, which we just released this May. Columbia College is hosting the event, and Quimby's Bookstore is the driving force behind it. If you're free this weekend, stop by the 1104 South Wabash building in the South Loop on Saturday or Sunday, and be sure to keep an eye out for all the panels and signings, as well as comic related art in the city this week.
speaking of comic related art….
I've got some pieces in a show that is opening on Saturday, in conjunction with CAKE. "CAKE: Eat Before We Eat You" was organized by rad dudes Jeremy "Onsmith" Smith and Paul Nudd. It's focused loosely on non-comic art by comic artists. The reception is Saturday at 6pm, at Morpho Gallery at 208 S. Wabash.
Below is a bitchin' flier designed by Pete Clodfelter
Check out all those incredible cartoonists! I'm really humbled to be a part of this show.
Finally, I may have mentioned that I was in Memphis for a while last month. I was lucky enough to get to go down there and learn to cook and compete in the International Barbecue Competition. I recorded the whole experience in a comic for SAVEUR magazine which I'm nearly finished with.
Here's a sneak preview of the strip, a first hand narrative travel-diary:
Okay. That's about all for now. Thanks for reading!
